Ask the Expert
What does your day-to-day look like?
My typical day involves collaborating closely with contracted clients to gain an understanding of their business challenges. I also engage with potential customers to discuss our solution capabilities. Additionally, I dedicate time to developing our junior consultants, configuring applications to align with specific business requirements, and supporting efforts in integration development.
How did you get started in supply chain?
I started my journey in supply chain as an Operations Manager at the Norfolk Southern Railroad, where I gained invaluable experience in logistics and supply chain management. The role immersed me in a dynamic environment, providing me with a solid foundation to build my career.
How does supply chain impact a company’s broader strategy?
Supply chain management is crucial in enhancing business efficiency, elevating customer satisfaction, and boosting brand reputation. Supply chain is not a supplementary function, but rather a foundational business process that complements overall organizational objectives.
What do you view as the biggest challenge in the current supply chain environment and how can it be solved?
One of the primary challenges in the current supply chain environment is the presence of disparate systems that hinders customers from having end-to-end visibility of their product lifecycle – from raw materials to finished goods. Due to this challenge, the customer faces an inability to derive actionable insights from that data. Addressing this issue requires integrating systems and technologies that enable seamless data flow and analytics.
What philosophy do you follow while working with customers?
In my approach to working with customers, I believe that the customer is the expert in their business. My role revolves around providing thought leadership and encouraging clients to explore untapped potential by challenging them to think about their business in a different way.
Please share your favorite success story.
One of my favorite success stories involves the recent implementation of the Blue Yonder Transportation Management System for a renowned automotive manufacturer. The implementation was a transformative supply chain initiative that optimized transportation operations and reduced costs, while simultaneously providing a scalable platform for future growth. The TMS capabilities effectively streamlined operations and supported the client’s dynamic transportation needs.
What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the supply chain industry?
For someone aspiring to enter the supply chain industry, I would recommend seeking foundational training to familiarize yourself with essential concepts but prioritize gaining practical experience. Beginning in an operations role offers valuable exposure across various aspects of supply chain functions. Embrace technology by familiarizing yourself with a range of supply chain management software tools. Continue to build your network and look to align yourself with like-minded individuals who share your sense of purpose and passion. Develop strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, and remain open to continuous learning and professional development.
What is a fun fact about yourself that your clients may not know?
In my spare time, I have a passion for trivia, gameshows, and solving puzzles and riddles. Engaging in these activities not only brings me enjoyment but also helps me maintain my sharp and creative mind, that I find beneficial in my career.
